News Letter for June

Welcome back to St Andrews Cubs after our half term holiday – I hope it was a good one for all of you!

We had lots of fun last week with the Countryside Ranger and went litter picking – we managed to collect about 10 full rubbish bags  from Snoxhall – so well done everyone! I was also very impressed with the nature knowledge some of you displayed.

This week we shall begin our Map Reader badge – we shall be in the hut this week and then next week  (ie June 17th) we shall be at Cranleigh Showground – please do NOT come to the hut. Drop your children off at the showground and we will be there to show them where to go. Pick ups also from the showground please at 8.15. I hope it will be fine weather – if not then waterproofs and wellies might be a good idea.

As you all know – it is Cranleigh Carnival on June 27th . This year the Cranleigh Scout group theme is “Under the Sea”. St Andrews would like to make a large fish in the style of a Chinese Dragon – lots of cubs will hold it up on bamboo poles. However we need the following:

HELP! Any creative or artistic types to help make the head and body
Old sheets or lengths of cotton fabric
Cold water dyes
Paint
Newspaper
Chicken wire
Bits of wood
Old pale coloured umbrellas and bubble wrap to make jellyfish.
Wall paper paste

I am happy to organise a making session on a Saturday morning if we can get enough parents to come and help. PLEASE consider helping  – it’s for your children after all. We don’t have long! We need to make and dye the fish body and make a head out of papier mache and chicken wire.

I hope you have all got a Camp Letter  for July (they should have been given out in the school playground). If you haven’t got one, there is one attached to this  newsletter  or you can download one from our new website www.cranleighscoutgroup.org) –  please return it by next week.
