Sunday 22nd April is this years date for the annual St George’s Day Parade at Guildford Cathedral. It is an opportunity for Scout Groups from all over both Guildford East and Guildford West Districts to come together and celebrate St George, not only the Patron Saint of England, but also of Scouting.
It is one of only two church parades we ask our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to attend each year, the other being Remembrance Day. Not only is it an opportunity for us all to reflect on the core values that Scouting represents, it is also a time when we all renew our Scouting Promises and reaffirm our membership of The Scout Association.
We are to meet at Surrey University by 2:15pm on Sunday 22nd April. Please can your Beaver/Cub/Scout be in full, clean uniform and wearing smart black shoes. If it is raining a jacket is allowed, otherwise please make sure they have something under their uniform if it is cold. There is a collection taken during the service. The Scouts meet in the road adjacent to the Ivy Arts Centre (old University Sports Hall). Parents/guardians should follow the signs to the parking areas, and not stop on the access road to drop the Scouts off.
Whilst the several hundred Scouts nearly fill the cathedral, there may be some space at the back if you would like to attend the service as well. Otherwise, please collect from your Section Leader at 4pm outside the main entrance to the cathedral.
It is a special year for Cranleigh this year as it is our turn to provide a prayer reader and a District colour bearer, so please do try and bring your Scout along, it is an important date in the calendar for us.
